Witley Court in Worcestershire was devastated by fire in 1937 and has remained a dramatic ruin ever since. Updated interpretation reveals how Witley Court developed into a palatial Victorian trophy house, designed for extravagant entertaining. Photographs and descriptions help you conjure up the mansion in its late-Victorian heyday, before its post-First World War decline and accidental burning to a dramatic roofless shell.
St. Michael and All Angels Church
This Anglican parish church was built in 1735 in the Baroque style. Miraculously, it was completely untouched by the devastating fire that destroyed the adjacent Witley Court.
The ceiling is covered in paintings by Antonio Bellucci. There are ten painted windows by Joshua Price. Lavish gold stucco covers the walls. The huge Foley monument is by Michael Rysbrack. And whilst you are there, don't forget to head to the Secret Garden Tearooms - Worcestershire's hidden treasure, nestled beside the church.
